Will Venable smacked 2 homeruns as the Jefferson Park Penguins defeated the
Dyersville Jurassics 7 to 6 at the ballpark.
Jefferson Park came up with 3 runs in the top of the 3rd inning when they had
3 base hits. Luis Castillo led off the inning for Jefferson Park when he
singled. Castillo took his lead and swiped second. Lance Berkman then
doubled. Venable got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Andrew
McCutchen struck out, unable to help the rally. Laynce Nix kept the rally
going and was walked intentionally. Akinori Iwamura came next and he
doubled. Dyersville had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up
short.
The win went to James McDonald(5-2) who allowed 5 runs in 5 innings. Ramon
Troncoso gained credit for his 12th save. Randy Wells(9-2) ended up with the
loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 6 innings of work.
'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Steve Seydell said after the game. 'McDonald did not have
command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'
